The Art of Stepping Up

I have always been a firm believer in the idea of personal and intellectual growth.
I currently attend Rochester Institute of Technology with a major in Graphic Media Science and Technology, and a minor in Business Administration. I excel in the art of communication, and have a keen interest in Technology. This has allowed me to find my voice, explore my talents, and expand my communication skills.
My career plan involves utilizing the newest programming languages, social media, digital tools, and computer systems to creatively communicate information and messages to the public, but specifically to black women. I want to own a digital marketing firm to help female-owned black businesses market their brands, services, and/or products. I will focus on brand awareness and maintaining positive images of their business across multiple social media platforms. This vision stems from my desire to ensure that the next generation of black girls have proper representation in careers such as STEM and the Arts. I want to be that representation. I want black women to see that it is possible to achieve great things. In seeking to elevate the next generation, I want to radically transform the status quo and ultimately change the world as we know it. I also have this core desire to use digital media and technology to educate and encourage people. Although I am a junior in college, I have already taken the initiative to gain experience in this field. For example, for my final project in my cross-media class, we had to create a magazine. So, I decided to make my magazine about the African American members of Gen Z. I wanted to use what I learned in class, and my platform to spread awareness about the underrated members of Generation Z.

Communication is Key
Breaking into Media
Majoring in Graphic Media Science and Technology has equipped me with the tools I need to express my ideas. Additionally, it has taught me how to communicate effectively through writing, speaking, and media production. I think what really drew me to this major was how I could use communication through different mediums. I had an internship in high school with a TV station for my school called BCPS-TV. Here is a snippet of a two-part series I did in my senior year of high school.

ALANA Collegiate Association
I came to RIT because I wanted a broad liberal education that would develop my creative and analytical abilities. My experience on the ACA Eboard has not only allowed me to expand on these abilities, but has also given me the opportunity to assist others in growing their talents as well.

One of the main things I love about being involved is the people I meet. When you are on multiple boards, you have to deal with many different kinds of people. I joined Velocity in the Fall of 2020. I joined Eboard in the Spring of 2021, and I definitely can say that my experience on Eboard has shaped how I design and communicate.
